North Atlantic Right Whale

Eubalaena glacialis

North Atlantic Right Whale

Slow swimming and rich in oil, the North Atlantic right whale was hunted from the eleventh century onward and was driven to the edge of extinction. Reaching about 18 metres, it strains tiny copepods through long baleen plates, and it remains one of the most endangered large whales alive.
