A flatfish of shallow muddy bottoms, the bay whiff ranges from the shoreline out to about 75 metres and pushes into brackish estuaries and salty lagoons. Both eyes sit on its left side as it lies camouflaged on the seabed, feeding on plankton and small bottom creatures.
