A small schooling fish of the surf line, the Atlantic silverside has a bright silver stripe down each side and rarely outgrows a hand span. It feeds on copepods, mysids and tiny shrimp, lays its eggs on the shore at spawning runs, and forms a major meal for striped bass and bluefish.
