Adult saucereye porgy haunt coral areas while the young keep to seagrass and sandy patches, and both crush hard prey such as mollusks, crabs, sea urchins and brittle stars. Easily approached by divers, this porgy reaches well over half a metre. It has been linked to ciguatera poisoning.
