This tilefish works mud and rubble bottoms on the outer shelf, picking through the sediment for crustaceans, mollusks, worms, brittle stars and small fish. It is usually caught between about seventy five and two hundred metres and brought to market fresh. So little is known about its numbers that its conservation status remains undetermined.
