This cold water snailfish has a soft, tadpole shaped body and a sucking disc on its belly that grips rock and shell. It often tucks itself into empty scallop shells, and feeds on amphipods, crabs and other small crustaceans. It lives on the bottom from the shallows down past six hundred metres.
