Diapterus auratus

Irish Mojarra

Silver and deep bodied with an extendable mouth, the Irish mojarra works shallow coastal bottoms and is most at home in mangrove creeks and lagoons. It pushes its protrusible jaws into the sand to sift out small invertebrates. Young fish range more widely than adults, and the species is eaten fresh.
