Stalked Vase Sponge

A small urn shaped sponge on a slender stalk, cream white with a single opening at its tip, it grows in clusters of five to ten on rock. It favours the low intertidal zone but ranges down to about a hundred and fifty metres, drawing water through its body to strain out food.
