This dwarfgoby lives only in the surge zone, on wave washed volcanic rock from about 0.2 to 2 metres deep where the water is in near constant motion. It shelters in small cracks in the vertical rock dressed with sponges and soft coral, secretive and almost never seen fully in the open.
