A pygmy squid barely a centimetre long, the Ryukyu pygmy squid hunts at night in shallow Okinawan seagrass beds during winter, then vanishes for the warmer months. It strikes at the back of its prey to pin it within seconds, then jets away in sharp, sudden bursts.
