A skate of the eastern Pacific, it ranges from inshore shelf waters down the slope to nearly a thousand metres, feeding on small fishes, squid and shrimps. It lays oblong egg capsules with stiff horns at the corners on sandy and muddy flats, and the young may trail after large objects.
