The brown tiger prawn begins life in shallow seagrass beds, where postlarvae and juveniles settle almost exclusively before moving offshore. Reaching about fifteen centimetres, it feeds on bivalves, snails, brittle stars, worms and algae from the seagrass down to about 60 metres.
