A mullet of lagoons, reef flats and tide pools that schools along reefs and pushes into harbours, it usually stays shallow but will swim down to about twenty metres. It scoops the top layer of sand or mud and filters out algae and tiny animals, and reef caught fish have been linked to ciguatera.
