Bright blue and rarely more than five arms, this sea star sprawls across sunlit reef rock, dead coral and rubble from the surface to around 60 metres. It works slowly over algal mats, taking detritus, tiny invertebrates and dead animals, while the young stay hidden beneath corals and stones.
