Horned Helmet

Cassis cornuta

Horned Helmet

A heavy, thick shelled snail, the horned helmet lives in colonies on the reef from a couple of metres down to about 30, often half buried in sand. It moves by lifting its whole shell upright then dropping it forward, and it preys on sea urchins, gripping them despite their spines.
