This striped cardinalfish shelters by day in caves and among coral branches of lagoon patch reefs, gathering in small loose groups. Unlike many of its plankton picking relatives it preys on small fishes, hunting them as light fades. Like other cardinalfish the male broods the eggs in his mouth until they hatch.
