A heavy bodied sea cucumber wrinkled like an elephant's hide, this species lies on reef slopes, lagoons and shallow seagrass beds, mostly shallower than 25 metres. It shovels sand and sediment through its gut to strip out organic matter, and is gathered for the dried trade despite a low market value. It is listed as Least Concern.
