A large sea cucumber of shallow Indo Pacific reefs and lagoons down to about 40 metres, the white teatfish grows to nearly 60 centimetres and feeds by swallowing sediment for its film of organic matter. Hand collected and processed into a costly delicacy, it has been heavily overfished and is listed as Vulnerable.
