The common spider conch grows long, curving spines from the lip of its heavy shell, sprawling across reef flats, seagrass and sandy bottoms from the tideline down to about twenty four metres. Reaching nearly thirty centimetres, it grazes on algae and is widely gathered for food and shellcraft.
