A slender silver fish of coastal waters, the tenpounder enters lagoons and estuaries and chases small fish and crustaceans near the bottom. It spawns at sea, and its young pass through a strange transparent, ribbon shaped larval stage before drifting inshore. It can reach well over a metre.
