A slim grey shark of continental and island shelves, the spottail hugs reefs near the seabed by day and rises toward the surface after dark. It hunts bony fishes along with squid and crustaceans, and grows to about 160 centimetres. Most of its movements are short hops, though some individuals travel more than a thousand kilometres.
