Largetooth Sawfish
Pristis microdon
- Group: Ray
- Typical depth: 0–10 m
- Max size: 7 m
- For divers: dangerous
Its long flat snout is edged with teeth like a saw, which it swings sideways to stun fish and rake through mud. It grows to roughly seven metres and moves freely between the sea, estuaries and far up freshwater rivers, where adults and young alike settle over soft bottoms. The saw can cause serious injury, though the fish never attacks on purpose.
