A boldly banded moray that hides among sandy and rocky reef crevices, the zebra moray crushes hard shelled prey with blunt teeth, feeding mostly on crabs but also taking other crustaceans, shellfish and sea urchins. It stays in shallow water, usually within a few metres of the surface.
