The tiger snake eel spends much of its life buried in the sand of reef flats and lagoons, sometimes gathering in large numbers under a light at night. It hunts small fish and crustaceans, occasionally slipping fully into the open as it searches. This solitary eel grows to about a metre and ranges down past 260 metres.
