This lizardfish lies still on sand and silty reefs, propped on its fins, then lunges to seize fish and the occasional crustacean in a mouth full of fine teeth. Common across shallow lagoons and reef flats, it hunts mostly at night and otherwise rests alone. It reaches about thirty two centimetres.
