Almost impossible to spot, the ghost pipefish hangs head down among weed and seagrass, its leafy flaps and shifting colour matching whatever it floats beside. Pairs stay together, and unusually it is the female that broods the eggs, cradling them in a pouch formed by her pelvic fins.
