Weedy Scorpionfish

Rhinopias frondosa

Weedy Scorpionfish

Draped in flaps and tassels of skin, this scorpionfish looks more like a clump of weed than a fish as it sits motionless among rocks, coral and algae. It hunts after dark, ambushing small fish and invertebrates that wander too close. Venomous spines back up the disguise, and it grows to about 23 centimetres.
