A heavyset predator of shallow reefs, the marbled coralgrouper hunts fish almost exclusively, taking parrotfishes, wrasses and surgeonfishes, and will drift well above the bottom to do it. It reaches nearly a metre and sometimes ventures down to sixty metres, though it usually keeps to water shallower than ten.
