The schooling dottyback shelters in rocky ledges, caves and coralline recesses, a small fish barely seven centimetres long. On Socotra it favours hard coral communities and mixed beds of macroalgae and coral on rocky platforms. Its boldly striped pattern makes it a favourite in the aquarium trade.
