The giant trevally is the bruiser of its family, reaching over a metre and a half and powering across reefs and sand flats to run down fish, crabs and spiny lobsters, often hunting at night. Juveniles grow up in estuaries before moving out to clear lagoons and seaward reefs. Large individuals can carry ciguatera.
