A large snapper of coral reefs and outer slopes, the two spot red snapper hunts mostly fish but also takes shrimps, crabs and snails down to about a hundred and eighty metres. Big fish from oceanic areas can carry ciguatera toxin, making them unsafe to eat in places like Tuvalu.
