Adults of this snapper gather in large daytime aggregations over coral reefs, often hanging almost motionless along slopes. Juveniles shelter in seagrass and mixed sand and coral. It reaches about fifty seven centimetres, and there are reports of ciguatera poisoning from eating large ones.
