This snapper hangs around coral reefs and flat bottoms scattered with sponges, sea whips and low outcrops, alone or in groups of up to thirty. Reaching about 40 centimetres, it hunts fish, shrimp, crabs and other bottom invertebrates and wears a brown stripe down the side.
