Emperor Red Snapper

A heavy bodied snapper banded in deep red, it grows past a metre and hangs near coral or rocky reefs and adjacent sand flats down to about 180 metres. The young shelter among the spines of sea urchins and in mangroves and turbid inshore water, and the flesh has occasionally been linked to ciguatera poisoning.
