A deepwater snapper of tropical seas, the goldbanded jobfish schools over hard, rocky and uneven sea floor down to around three hundred fifty metres off islands and banks. It reaches about ninety centimetres and hunts fishes, squid and a range of crustaceans, and is prized as a food fish.
