A deepbodied mojarra of sandy bottoms that schools in coastal waters and slips into estuaries and lagoons. Young feed on zooplankton while adults take worms, shellfish, crustaceans and small fishes, and spawners gather at the outer reef around the full moon. It reaches about 30 centimetres.
