A heavy lipped sweetlips of coastal reefs, sandbanks and estuary mouths that sometimes enters fresh water, it reaches around three quarters of a metre. Small juveniles drift on their sides over sheltered sand, mimicking a dead leaf, and reef caught adults have been linked to ciguatera.
