Red Steenbras

Petrus rupestris

Red Steenbras

The largest of the porgies, the red steenbras holds territory around rocky banks and reaches two metres, an ambush feeder on octopus, crabs and other fish. The flesh is highly valued, but the liver is loaded with so much vitamin A that eating it can make you seriously ill.
