Adults grow to about one and a quarter metres and crush hard shelled prey such as crabs, snails and sea urchins on exposed reef flats and surge zones. Young clown coris look nothing like the adults and are common in shallow tide pools. Like other wrasses, they change shape and colour dramatically as they mature.
