Young blackeye thicklips shelter among branching corals inshore, while adults work over mixed sand, rubble and coral, the largest moving into deeper water. This wrasse reaches about forty centimetres and feeds mainly on small invertebrates, especially crustaceans and worms it picks from the bottom.
