The largest parrotfish in the sea, it reaches well over a metre and crowds onto outer reefs in groups, using a bulbous battering forehead to ram and break coral while it feeds. At night the group sleeps together in caves and wrecks, and heavy fishing has left it vulnerable to extinction.
