Fire Goby

Nemateleotris magnifica

Fire Goby

Hovering just above outer reef slopes, it faces into the current and picks off zooplankton and tiny crustacean larvae drifting past. It flicks its tall first dorsal fin back and forth like a pennant, and several may share one burrow, ready to dart inside at any threat.
