A trailing horn grows from the forehead of older fish, longer than the rest of the snout. It hangs around steep outer reef drop offs between the surface and roughly 120 metres, often in small groups but gathering into large schools where currents run strong. Young fish graze algae off the bottom while adults switch to picking zooplankton from the water.
