A long, ribbon thin frostfish, this species haunts seamounts and the continental slope between roughly 375 and 600 metres, while its young drift in the midwater far above. Like other cutlassfishes it is a slim, silvery predator armed with sharp teeth. It reaches about fifty one centimetres.
