A tonguesole shaped like a long teardrop, it lies flat on muddy and sandy bottoms of the continental shelf, both eyes set on one side of its body. It works the shallows and the seabed for small invertebrates, sometimes turning up in a sandy patch among rocks in barely half a metre of water.
