A flatfish of muddy and sandy shelf bottoms, the doublelined tonguesole lies with both eyes on its left side and feels for buried prey with sensory fringes around its mouth. It tolerates brackish water, pushing into estuaries and tidal rivers, and grows to around thirty centimetres.
