A small sharpnosed puffer of rocky and coral reefs, the brown lined puffer ranges deep, down to about 350 metres, and is more often trawled than seen by divers. Like its kin it carries powerful toxins in its flesh, defence enough for a fish that never grows past about 18 centimetres.
