Short fixed spines cover this burrfish, raised permanently rather than inflated like its puffer cousins. It shelters by day inside large sponges on protected reefs and over sand and mud down to about 170 metres, then comes out at night to crunch hard shelled invertebrates. It reaches around 30 centimetres.
