Thimble Jellyfish

Linuche unguiculata

Thimble Jellyfish

Barely the size of a fingertip, this little jellyfish gathers nearshore in spring and summer and gives swimmers the itchy rash known as sea lice. Its polyps grow on coral rubble before the tiny medusae bud off into open water down to about 200 metres.
