Galjoen

Dichistius capensis

Galjoen

A prize of South African shore anglers, the galjoen holds in the surge of inshore reefs and rocky gullies, grazing mussels, crustaceans and other invertebrates off the rock. It gathers in winter and breeds in deeper water, and years of heavy fishing have thinned its numbers.
